Back in the Philippines, it’s almost as if Christmas season starts whenever the Ber months roll along, and practically ends when Valentine’s Day comes up. The Christmas spirit comes early and leaves superbly late, decorations are sold and put up as early as September, and Christmas jingles would already be played in malls by October. (Halloween? Oh come on.) Here in Singapore however, the country is fresh from the end of Ramadan, and as I was walking to school this morning I witnessed a coconut smashing of sorts going on at a nearby temple (which I pass by every school day.) I don’t think I’ll be seeing Christmas lanterns any time soon.
September also marks an important period for the-college-me. That is: deadlines, presentations, and a trip home. When I was a high schooler I used to push myself to study for exams with the line “If I sacrificed some time studying, I’d be able to rest all I want afterwards” and it was pretty much enough for me to pass secondary school with flying colors, if I might say. In college I don’t feel that lingering dread whenever I have to do schoolwork since I actually enjoy working on the computer, but presenting things was never my forte. I’m bad at explaining things verbally since I prefer writing instead. (Less social interaction = hooray) I used to enjoy speaking in front of others, but that was mainly because I was either doing it in front of people my age or people of authority. As the youngest in my class now (I always was, but the age gaps are greater now) I guess it can’t be helped to feel a little uneasy and pressured. Which is kind of ironic since I’ve been in oratorical and impromptu speaking contests in the past, but in this situation the circumstances are different. I’m in a different country as well, and I worry that although my accent was considered appealing back home (my English teacher once told me that my voice sounded good when I speak through a microphone, and I’ve been asked to host various events within the school and as well as contests within the city. Now that I think about it, I actually had quite a “past life”! Hahaha! I never realized it until now! Here’s to hoping my future would be even better!) I can’t say for sure that my accent is “decent” enough for my classmates, since I find their way of speaking different from mine as well. (In a good way though! Compared to the Carabao English manner of speaking, Singlish sounds… how do I put this, “playful”. Hahaha! Admit it, if someone speaks in Visayan they sound angry all the time! :p)
You know… I hate blogs that are all text and no photos. Hahaha! So anyway.
Today was supposed to be a group presentation day of sorts, and I thought of wearing something decent to boost up my confidence a bit. We didn’t end up presenting though. My efforts to dress up weren’t exactly put to waste since my work was used as an example in class again, and it was also used to show a potential enrollee (from France! Nomon diba.) of what my school teaches (which was very stressful since it felt like it was a very big responsibility to show something good to a possible new classmate! HAHAHAHA) so I guess I needed the confidence boost anyway!

I was not wearing anything specially branded. Hahaha! The vest/bolero/jacket thingy was a little granny looking, so in an attempt to not look like an oldie, I wore my sparkly shoes (which are probably the most comfortable wedge-type shoes I’ve ever owned) and tattered shorts. I also tied my hair up in a pseudo-cornrow ponytail. I have yet to learn how to french braid my hair in a way that could be worn in public! (I know the basics of how to french braid, but I just can’t do it properly yet!)
Anyway, I’m practically done with two of my projects, and the last one could be done over the weekend. All I need to finish are my write-ups and then to print everything that needs to be printed, and I’m done. So I didn’t want to rush myself since if I did all my schoolwork on weekdays I’d have nothing to do on the weekend (I’m a stay-at-home person lol social life does not exist for people like me) and as the afternoon progressed I ended up doing my laundry and experimenting with my camera settings. None of the photos really turned out right but hey, experiments have to fail sometimes!
